Located in Hong Kong's Mandarin Oriental Hotel, it provides haircuts, pedicures, facials, massages and the aforementioned shaves (complete with badger-bristle brushes and hot towels) while you recline in a barber chair that looks as if it was hauled off a mobster film set and installed in Chinese Art Deco surrounds. Little wonder Hong Kong's shovers and makers have made the Mandarin Barber a favorite sanctuary. In many ways, it's equivalent to what would nowadays be called a "day spa" but don't you dare start referring to it as that.
